St. John’s Vancouver recently facilitated a presentation with two members of their church, Manya Egerton and Beth Allen, titled: "Children, Books, and God: The Impact of Children's Books on Child Development and Spiritual Formation". The talk addresses the formative power of good books in the lives of children. Manya and Beth draw on wisdom from both Christian and secular writers and read some of their recommended stories in the presentation.

Along with the presentation, St. John’s has curated a list of recommended books and resources for children with the help of parents and families.

You can watch the presentation here on this page and download the book list as a PDF.

Here’s how St. John’s described the project:

“Find Joy and Pass it On, in Books for Children

Now more than ever children and their families need new ways to enjoy life together and enrich their faith. Good books can do just that! That is why we are excited to present: "Children, Books, and God: How Reading Good Books with Children Grows Faith and Relationships". This talk was originally given in 2012. It has been updated since then and now includes a bigger and better book list, with suggestions for kids of all ages. If you are a parent or a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle, or just someone who is interested in sharing good books with children, we hope that you will listen and be encouraged by the wonderful ways that we can help our children read and read well for the glory of God.”
