Staying on top of events
Check out our General Synod webpage for photos. And don’t forget to follow the live blog. If you wish to watch the proceedings from the floor of General Synod, see www.anglican.ca.

What happened today…
General Synod got under way this evening with an opening service at St John’s Cathedral, Winnipeg.

While Synod has just kicked-off, Anglican Essentials has been active since Monday.  This morning an overflow gathering of delegates and Essentials volunteers began the day at the Essentials headquarters in the Radisson Hotel with  Morning Prayer from the BCP. Reverend Dr. Andrew Goddard preached a moving homily drawn from the text of 2 Chronicles 20. He reminded us of the hope and direction that King Jehoshaphat received after acknowledging, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” Special prayers were offered for the work of General Synod and for the discernment and faithfulness of all delegates over the coming days.

Other highlights of the day:
AEC display is now up.  It is strategically located by the elevators on the route to the  General Synod meeting floor.
The day was packed with small AEC groups meeting to plan GS activities and motions strategies.
The day was marked by continued media interest. AEC representatives were interviewed by a number of TV stations today.
A few delegates made use of the AEC Internet Café – on the 12th floor of the Radisson hotel.
Many valuable informal connections were made with delegates from across the country.

What’s coming up tomorrow…
The Rev. Canon Charlie Masters, national director of AEC, is on 100 Huntley Street (a Christian TV program shown across Canada) at 9am in most time zones – then again on Tuesday also at 9am.
John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, will address General Synod delegates at 11:40am.
A presentation from the Council of the North highlighting the work in sparsely populated parts of Canada, where Aboriginal peoples form a large portion of the population.

Please pray:
For discernment and insight for the team leading the motions strategy.
For grace, wisdom and courage for Essentials spokespeople being interviewed by the media.
For continued grace for volunteers manning AEC and other display tables and talking to delegates throughout the week.
For the courageous and godly prayer team upholding General Synod, delegates and the ministries of AEC and others.  They are in the frontlines of the battle.
For courage, wisdom and clear thinking for delegates committed to advancing the Kingdom of Christ on the floor of General Synod.
For delegates to come to Dr Goddard’s sessions.
