  Predictive Intelligence

Every purposeful action requires an element of risk. How effective can our actions be? In purposeful activity we continuously weigh the opportunities for impact against the uncertainties.

Every time we act as stewards of our time, resources or energy, we have a calculation to make. Over time we develop maturity in making these calculations as we develop "savvy" or "predictive intelligence".

Faith instructs us to take high risks for the noblest causes. Faith also instructs us to be good stewards. "Who would build a tower without first counting the cost?"

Faith communities also need predictive intelligence. How can they best achieve their goals? How can they maximize their impacts on their communities while reducing their uncertainties? Good leadership from the parish priest, interacting with good lay leadership can foster the predictive intelligence the community needs. It will develop over time as they try out creative ideas and refocus their energies on the best programs and practices.

There are ways to enhance predictive intelligence.

1. Welcome constructive feedback.

2. Honestly measure and review results.

3. Learn from your failures.

4. Be alert to new opportunities.

5. Watch for fresh leaders that have faith, imagination, and care about results.

6. Have a "Plan B" ready and an exit strategy if "Plan A" is not working.

Normally, we will want to focus on strategies that have high impact with low uncertainty. Occasionally, for excitement, we might try an idea that has the possibility of high impact with high uncertainty. The quest to be good stewards and have high impact will continuously need grounding in our deepest beliefs and highest values. Our motive is to build up the family of God and to share His love with every heart and home within reach.
