  CRITICAL FUNCTIONS

One of the challenges of Parish Leadership is shaping our time effectively. There are many competing claims on us that have to be shaped into a plan for the week. As we look at all those claims and expectations on us, it is important to identify in our minds what are the "critical functions" that cannot be left out. Here are some items that I think are essential. What is your list?

1) Preparing and planning transformational worship.

2) Welcoming and incorporating newcomers.

3) Saying the daily offices, encountering the Lord, the Word, and praying for your people by name.

4) Recruiting, equipping, and supporting the leaders that help the community to exist and grow.

5) Visiting. This is a sacrament of the connectedness of the community and of the privileged relationship between clergy and people.
